Adnan Januzaj – Scout Report

A lot has been said of the United’s winger’s poor performances during the 2012/13 season, in spite of United winning the Premier League title comfortably. Along with the central midfield position, one area where United have to improve is the wings. If Valencia can reach the heights of his 2011-12 season, the United supporters will be kept happy, but there’s one other player who caught everyone’s eye when he was named on the bench for Sir Alex Ferguson’s last ever match for United, Adnan Januzaj; a youngster tipped by many to be the next David Beckham.

Background:

Adnan spent his early youth career with Anderlecht, but it wasn’t long before scouts from all over the world saw this upcoming talent. Elite clubs like Barcelona and United showed very keen interest in signing him, but it was the Premier League champions who won this race. The fee was believed to be around £300,000.

Scout Report:

Adnan primarily plays on the right side even though he is left footed. He can also play centrally or on the left side. He is very well-known for his skills, creativity and most impressively, his calmness in possession. His dribbling qualities are exceptional, and there are no doubts that he can be a creative spark for United in the coming years. Technically, he is sound for his age and is blessed with very good balance; this coupled with his pace makes him a very talented dribbler. He has a delicate frame but it shouldn’t be problem since he is still very young. The trait which has drawn most comparisons to Beckham, is his superb set piece ability. His awareness is excellent and thrives on empty spaces. He has great vision and his first touch and ball control are very decent too.

New manager, David Moyes rates him highly and it was evident why when he put in a dazzling performance against Singha All Star XI.

He had a wonderful 2012-13 season with scoring once and assisting 4 in 19 games for the U21 reserves and, not surprisingly, he won the Manchester United’s Reserve Team Player of the Year award at the age of 18.

It’s fairly safe to say Januzaj will take the Premier League by storm in few years time
